The following may apply for the CTeSP: those who hold a secondary education course or legal equivalent; those who have been approved in the exams specifically directed to assessing the ability of applicants over 23 to attend higher education, exams that were taken within the desired degree, in accordance with the Law no. 64/2006, 21st March; those who have a diploma in technological specialisation or of higher professional technician or another higher education degree that seek to achieve their professional requalification.

Following the implementation of the Bologna Process and the consequent legislation regarding the mobility of students among degrees and higher education institutions, prior learning must be recognized and credited. The prior learning concept comprises all the previous learning/training undertaken in other higher education study cycles in national or international institutions (crediting of certified training), as well as previous professional experience and any post-secondary school training or education. As such, the IPB promotes the crediting of the student’s prior learning when arriving at the institution. Aiming at a quick and full integration of the student in his/her new education programme, the recognition procedures must be submitted when enrolling at the IPB. 2 Curricular Years. 3240 Total hours. 120 ECTS credits, corresponding to 1 credit at 27 hours. Includes a 30 credit stage.

The profile of the programme comprises the development of the technical knowledge and the higher level professional qualification in the education and training area of health and wellness.

The diploma of professional superior technician is conferred after a cycle of studies of 120 credits, that includes three components of training: general and scientific (24 credits), technical (66 credits) and in work context (30 credits). To complete the course students must obtain approval for all curricular units of the study plan. The diploma of a senior professional technician in Thermal and Wellness is awarded to students who demonstrate, in this area: a) Plan and ensure the performance of thermal techniques, massage techniques, aesthetics and well-being, using the appropriate technical means and equipment according to the needs and specificities of the client. b) Manage communication and interpersonal relationship with the client and the multidisciplinary team. c) Plan and manage information for the acquisition of healthy lifestyles and eating behaviors, considering the specifics of each client. d) To prepare plans of advice of the client on the therapies of promotion of the well-being, namely complementary, thermal, nutritional and esthetic therapies. e) Manage anomalous situations in the client regarding the treatments. f) Elaborate and monitor records of thermal activities, welfare and aesthetics performed. g) Manage eventual occurrences observed or referenced by the client and employees, in order to ensure the quality and continuous improvement of the services provided. h) To coordinate and apply the maintenance and hygiene of equipment and materials, bathing facilities and SPAs, promoting good practices according to the legislation in force regarding thermalism and SPAs. i) Coordinate and apply a correct handling of specific machines and equipment of Spa and SPA. j) Develop appropriate first aid procedures and techniques.

The Higher Vocational Course of Thermal and Welfare is part of the Health and Welfare training area and its graduates are prepared to perform technical functions within the profile of the study program.

The holders of a higher professional technician diploma can access to a bachelor's degree and to an integrated master's degree. Access and enrolment is done by means of a special application enshrined in a particular law.
